Global Travel and the Future of the World: The Impact of Global Travel on the World
Over the last decade, the era of global tourism, which is fueled by cheap and widespread international transport, has made a huge impact on the world. The ability to travel far reaches of the planet has enabled individuals to do so in a manner that is not possible previously. This ability to explore beyond one’s home country has sparked a new understanding of different cultures and ideologies, providing a more holistic view of the world and its people. Globalization has made international travel more affordable, and thus easier for people from all walks of life. For instance, according to a recent study, “the cost of air travel has dropped by more than 50% since the 1990s, making it possible for more people to travel the world than ever before” (Lam, 2019). Global travel has created a new world of opportunities for people who cannot afford it. Global travel also allows for a greater understanding and appreciation of other cultures, as well as the opportunity to learn from them. Tourists can understand and appreciate different practices and customs through visiting foreign countries (Brennan 2019).
