Autosomal dominant is the mode of inheritance. This is an inheritance pattern where one copy of an affected gene can cause a specific trait or disorder. Autosomal Recessive only requires one copy of the affected gene in order for the disorder or trait to be expressed. Autosomal Dominant inheritance is also known as “dominant inheritance” (Moller, 2018). Autosomal dominant inheritance passes the genetic information from parent to child at a ratio of 50/50. If the parent has one copy of the altered gene, there is a 50% chance that the child will inherit it, and a 50% chance that the child will not inherit it (Mendelsohn & Lippman, 2020).
