Renal Insufficiency and Renal Failure: Dietary and Signs
A condition where the kidneys fail to properly filter out waste from the body is called renal insufficiency. It can lead to kidney failure, which is a severe medical condition that affects the ability of the kidneys to remove waste. A clinician may look out for signs to indicate the progress from renal insufficiency or renal failure. The signs include an increase in creatinine, increased nitrogen levels, decreased urine output, and elevated blood levels (Abbaszadeh and colleagues, 2016). Patients may experience nausea, vomiting, fatigue and swelling in their extremities. When renal insufficiency progresses to renal failure, the patient’s diet must be adjusted to address the decreased kidney function. Limiting sodium, potassium, and phosphorous in the diet can cause kidney damage (Chertow 2016,).
