Although it’s impossible to determine how life came about, current science suggests that the origin of life was around 3.8 billion years old. This is due to chemical and environmental factors (Kurzgesagt 2017, 2017). It is believed that organic molecules like nucleotides or amino acids were formed first in the evolution of life. These organic molecules, which are fundamental building blocks of life, can take many forms. One theory suggests that ultraviolet radiation and lightning acted on the Earth’s primordial atmosphere to create these molecules. A second theory is that meteorites carrying organic chemicals from outer space played some role in this process (Vicino 2019). These molecules then combined to make complex molecules, such as proteins or lipids. These molecules may have formed self-replicating structures known as protocells. The protocells could metabolize and reproduce. They eventually became the basis of all life.
