An analysis of the Combustion of Cadaverine’s Molecular Formula
Cadaverine, a foul-smelling chemical that is made from rotting animal tissue (Morrison 2019, 2019). The distinctive smell of cadaverine, which is only composed of C, H, and N, can help you identify it (Morrison 2019, 2019). A combustion analysis can reveal the molecular structure of Cadaverine. A sample of the compound must be burned and then the product of combustion is measured (Khan 2019, 2019). The molecular formula can be found by measuring the amounts of Carbon Dioxide and Water. This experiment involved 3.75g of cadaverine. It was subject to combustion analysis. Results of this analysis revealed that 8.08g was CO2 and 4.63g were H2O (Khan 2019, 2019). Calculating the molecular formula can be done by using the mololar mass of Cadaverine (102.18g/mol), as well as the law of conservation. C5H12N2 is the answer, indicating that the molecular formula of cadaverine contains 12 Hydrogen and 5 Carbon atoms.
