The Mass of Ascorbic Acid in Vitamin C Tablets

Vitamin C Tablets – The Mass of Ascorbic Acid

Vitamin C is an essential component to a healthy diet. Research has shown Vitamin C’s importance for health and well-being. It plays a vital role in tissue growth, repair and development as well as protection from disease (Vuksan?usa, 2019 and Folayan, et al. (2018). To determine how much ascorbic acid is in each Vitamin C tablet, we conducted a titration test. Vitamin C tablets weighing 6.3287g were ground and 0.3231g of dilute sulphuric acids dissolved. To reach the target concentration, this solution was titrated using 0.0992 M ammonium Cerium (IV), sulphate and 23.28mL. Ammonium cerium (IVS) sulphate reacts to ascorbic Acid in a 2:1 ratio. The tablets containing 8.842 mg of ascorbic Acid were calculated.
