Sometimes, recommendations are seen as key tools for driving positive changes. It is vital to remember that recommendations must be practical and achievable. While this does not mean that all recommendations must aim to be idealistic, they should still be achievable and practical within their context. They will not be effective and can even cause disillusionment and disappointment. As the philosopher, George Santayana noted, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”. This principle is particularly relevant when it comes to recommendations. If they aren’t grounded in reality, then the likelihood of repeating previous failures could be high.
