Recombination Genes: Two Interpretations of the 50/50 Results
Recombination refers to the exchange of genetic material between two parent strands of DNA. It results in the creation of new alleles, and genotypes. Two possible explanations can be given when there is a 50/50 proportion of nonrecombinants and recombinants. First, this means that there has been recombination and the ratio is 50:50. This might indicate high levels of recombination. It may also suggest high genetic diversity (Ludington and al., 2020). This could indicate that there is gene flow among two populations. Recombination may lead to new species (Gouy, et al. 2016). This second explanation is that there has been no recombination and that the ratio of non-recombinants to recombinants at 50/50 is due to random selection of alleles within a population. The observed ratio may be due to genetic drift (Tazewell, 2021). This could signify a small amount of genetic diversity. Cont….
