There are many types of mutations which can transform cells, such as Growth Factor Receptor Mutations
Mutations can be defined as changes to the genetic material in an organism, which manifests itself in the form the physical characteristics and behavior of the organism, as well health. There are many causes of mutations, such as exposure to radiation, chemicals and viruses as well as accidental errors in replication. Altering growth factor receptors is one type of mutation that can cause cells to transform. You can get these receptors altered in many ways. We’ll briefly discuss them below. Point mutation, which results in growth factor receptor change is one form of mutation. Point mutations happen when base pair changes in genetic material occur, often by substitution. The receptor’s activity may be affected, leading to cell transformation. Transversion is another type of mutation that can cause growth factor receptor alterations. Transversion is when one purine base becomes a pyrimidine or vice versa. This mutation has been linked to transformation of cells (Liang and Sun, 2020, 2019, respectively). Chromosomal rearrangements are a third form of mutation which can cause growth factor receptor change. When the structure of a gene’s chromosome changes due to duplications or deletions, chromosomal rearrangements occur. This can lead to changes in activity of growth factor receptors. cont…
