Understanding Electrophoresis for Nucleic Acids
The laboratory method of electrophoresis for nucleic acids allows you to identify nucleic acid molecules by their shape and size. This is a method to analyze, purify and separate DNA, RNA and other nucleic acids molecules. The procedure involves applying a high voltage electric field to nucleic acid samples in a gel matrix. This causes them to move in the same direction as the electric field. The molecules can move at different speeds depending on the size of their charge and can be broken down into distinct bands. This technique is widely used in the field of biotechnology and molecular biology (Moura, 2016; López-Sánchez et al., 2021). Electrophoresis of nucleic acids is used to study the structure and function of genes, to identify genetic mutations, and in forensic science for the identification and analysis of evidence (López-Sánchez et al., 2021). The method is used for the identification of genetic disorders as well as to examine the expression of genes within different cell types and tissues (Kazemi Esfarjani, Struhl (2016)). The essential tool for biotechnology and molecular biology is electrophoresis. It is used to understand the structure, function and expression of genes. Cont…
