Frameshift mutation
Frameshift Mutation and its Impact on the Transcribed. A single nucleotide is insert or deleted from an original DNA strand. This results in a shifting of the entire gene sequence’s reading frame. The given case shows that a single nucleotide has been deleted from the original DNA strand. This changes the transcription sequence of 5’AUG CGU UAU GGG GAG UAG3′ to 5’AUG AGU UAG GGG GAG UAG3′ (Chakraborty and co-authors, 2016). The structure of the encoded proteins can be affected severely and this type of mutation may cause the formation non-functional protein (Vernon, et al. 2019,). In the given example, the original sequence of the mature mRNA was 5′ AUG CGU UAU CGG GAG UAG 3′, which encodes for the amino acid sequence Leucine-Arginine-Isoleucine-Arginine-Gluatmine-Stop. However, the mutated sequence of the mature mRNA is 5′ AUG CGU UAG CGG GAG UAG 3′, which encodes for a completely different amino acid sequence of Leucine-Arginine-Glutamine-Arginine-Gluatmine-Stop (Bialik and Bergman, 2021).
