Compare Neo-Malthusian vs Cornucopian Population Growth Theories

Both the Neo-Malthusian (or Cornucopian) theories of population growth attempt to explain and explain why there is so much population growth. The Neo-Malthusian theory, first proposed by Thomas Malthus in 1798, suggests that population growth leads to overpopulation and eventually leads to famine, disease and poverty (Tcherneva & Wray, 2019). Cornucopian theory on the contrary, predicts that increased population will result in technological advancements and greater resources, resulting in a higher quality of life (Kuznets 2020). The Neo-Malthusian theory argues that the world’s population is growing faster than its ability to produce resources, leading to a scarcity of resources and an increase in poverty (Tcherneva & Wray, 2018). Cornucopian theory shows that technology and human innovation will make it possible to solve the resource shortage.
