The Characteristics Of Different Types Of RNAs That Regulate Gene Expression

It is vital for gene regulation and expression. There are two types of RNA: non-coding and messenger. Every type of RNA is unique and well-suited to its function in gene expression. Messenger RNA (mRNA), a type RNA that is transcribed from DNA, is responsible for carrying genetic information from nucleus into the cytoplasm. The mRNA sequence is one-stranded and very unstable. It is rapidly degraded quickly by RNase enzymes which makes its half-life extremely short (Schlief et. al., 2021). The mRNA molecules then become proteins which carry out the biological functions in an organism. Non-coding RNA, also known as ncRNA, is any type of RNA without the ability to encode any proteins. The two types of non-codingRNA are microRNA and long, non-codingRNA. The miRNA is a short single-strandedRNA molecule which binds with mRNA to inhibit its translation into protein (Liu and co., 2019). LncRNA, a double-stranded, longer RNA molecule, can be used to regulate gene expression (Liu and al., 2016). Cont…
